Tina founded the salon independently in 2008 and is the behind-the-scenes business partner of Carlos Cancio. As the owners of balance salon spa, they pride themselves on being a local, American owned and operated small business, since 2008. The salon was created after meeting one another in 2007. Tina spent years with her mother, a cosmetologist in the family salon, and grew up being loyal to the AVEDA brand. She has been surrounded by the culture for the past 40+ years.
She received dual Bachelor of Arts Degrees, in Macro Sociology and Psychology from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois 1992. After 25+ years of working as an executive in the food and beverage industry with global brands, she retired, due to her chronic cancer and medical conditions. Tina manages all financial and support aspects of the business (behind-the-scenes) from home, volunteers her time online, as an LGL Leukemia Community Leader at the Rare Genomics Institute, and on the LLS Advocacy Committee at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Carlos has been with balance salon spa (formerly level salon) for the past 25 years. He has over 28 years of career experience in the hair care industry being a native of Cuba, where he began in barbering. Upon literally coming to America, he continued to further his creative God-given talent. In 1994, he became an Apprentice, assisting shampoos and cleaning up the salon, not speaking a word of English. In 1996, he began learning English and styling hair, as a Junior Stylist. In 1997, he became a Main Stylist, for 5 years. In 2002, he became a Master Stylist. Now, he is a successful business co-owner/salon manager, along with his (behind-the-scenes) business partner, Tina Cancio. Carlos handles all of the in-salon daily operations and guest/employee relations.
Carlos has successfully completed numerous business and technical training programs; including those at the Vidal Sassoon Advanced Academy in San Francisco, CA, Tony and Guy, Tampa, FL, and the AVEDA Institute Training in Miami, FL, and St. Petersburg, FL. Although he is no longer able to accept new guests, we have an incredible array of talented, creative Hair Artist Stylists to choose from.
His son Christian, graduated from high school, May 2020. The Cancio family lives in the Tampa Bay Area.
